Day -1 Part 2 - The Gategate conspiracy...

Finally arrived at the Wyndham, Oklahoma City at 22:30 local time 04:30 UK time after a 35 hour door to door trip. Standard.

Only in 2006 have I missed a connection, and knowing the joys of customs and immigration at Atlanta I turned down a very optimistic 90 minute lay over in favour of a 5 hour wait for the OKC flight.

The flight out of Manchester was routine, set off a bit late yet arrived at a not very busy Atlanta a bit early. Sat next to a nice lad (massive power-lifter) which helped pass the time. Half asleep I checked the connections and set off on the train from terminal F to C for the OKC flight. Wrong flight, wrong terminal so returned back to F. Sat, got bored so checked the correct flight and took the train to terminal D. Got to terminal D to find the flight was now back in F. Got back to F, F10 to be precise and sat exactly where I’d started. Severe weather to our south had badly affected flights with planes now diverted all over the place. The Miami flight and four others were now all supposed to leave from F10 within 15 minutes of each other, a fact not lost on the rather funny announcer.  Finally we move to F12 and leave for OKC 45 minutes late to be told “use the restroom now, you won’t be able to take your seatbelts off on the flight. It’s gonna be bumpy..”. Which it wasn’t. If you think this is a boring story you should have been there…at least I got the 10,000 steps (actually 9996) done. Three traditional Shiner Bocks and about to go to bed when Peter and Tour 2 roll in after an unsuccessful day in the Oklahoma Pan Handle.

Spare a thought for poor Roger. The plane out of Heathrow was cancelled due to a bird strike on arrival, he was downgraded 2 classes on the next flight, arrived at Houston to find nobody on duty to process immigration and missed the last connection of the day. Hopefully he’ll arrive here this morning in time for today’s bonus outing but severe weather may add to his flight misery.

Hotel Wifi works for the iPhone but not for the laptop so having use the iPhone as a wireless hotspot. No idea why.
